Introduction:
*************
Your Character begins the game with another Character, in the form of a Girl who is his best friend, inside him. She will introduce herself whenever you introduce yourself to some one new, but is not active constantly.

Your home is Fenith Island but in the initial Event, you will be displaced to another time in the Island's history, evidently in the future as the Tree beside the Pond that you know has grown considerably. Incidentally, the Character of Weber, beloved by fans of Rune Factory Frontier, apparently has become a resident of Fenith Island in your time, as reference will be made to him before the Event.

When you arrive in the future, your best friend will be housed inside your body as the result of a curse. You then meet the local Innkeeper, Odette, who will offer you a Cottage as well as the use of her Kitchen at the Inn if you wish to cook. She then will take you on a little tour of the Island.

You obviously have been moved to the future in order to save your beloved homeland from some kind of threat. The Arch-Dragons who are the guardians of your homeland, very plentiful in your own time period, have been greatly reduced in the time to which you are moved.

Another change to which many Characters will allude is the change in circumstances that has befallen the De Sainte-Coquille family. Originally wealthy, as we all know from the entire Rune Factory series, they evidently have fallen on hard times, although they still have an Elvish Maid to tend to their needs. In Tides of Destiny, she is a Dark Elf named Maerwen and she is an 'exchange student' who like many au pairs in Europe, works for her board and room. Unlike Bianca from Rune Factory Frontier, who was very haughty and disdained manual labour, Lady Electra on the Island loves to clean and has to be scolded for her plebian taste by her own Maid!

Ultimately, you will be able to restore your uninvited soulmate to her own body and then will be able to play as either Character. At the start of the game, however, your Character is Male for all intents and purposes, even though he has the advantage or disadvantage of the opinions of his Female Companion.

After the Tour of the Island, in which you will meet a very eccentric priest, you will find a Seed. Your friend will prompt you to plant it at once. This Seed will become a pivotal Character in your life when it has grown.

You will have a Box Lunch, made for you by your best friend before the catastrophic Event that placed her inside your body alongside your own Self, and a Spirit Wand with a value of 100G.

Your sole item of Equipment is your Hat.

Freyr's Hat: 250G
ATK: 0; DEF: 5; MGC ATK: 0; MGC DEF: 0

The Hat is equipped. The Spirit Wand is in your Inventory. Other than that, you have nothing.
Spirit Wand: 100G
ATK: 0; DEF: 0; Max ATK: +50; Max DEF +50

**************************
Weapons and Combat
**************************

The Smithy will sell all the basic Weapons as well as Hammer and Axe from the start, but you will obtain your first Weapon when you arrive on Verde Island for the first time. Your Character will discover a Chest that contains a variety of Weapons. In fact, they are the basic Weapons of each type that can be found in Tides of Destiny.

Your choices:
Take the dual blades.
Take the longsword.
Take the spear.
Take the katana.
Take the staff.

There is no Shortsword in Tides of Destiny, alas.

When you choose a specific Weapon, you will be given a brief description of the style of combat attached to it. You then can choose to keep the Weapon or exchange it for a different one. Here are the descriptions:

Dual Blades:

Freyr; Why take one sword when I could take two? I can chain together lots of attacks with the dual blades, even though each hit might not be that strong on its own.

Longsword:

Freyr: A longsword? It's powerful, but it might leave me open to counterattacks between swings.

Spear

A spear is great because I can attack enemies that are far away. The only downside is that it's not very good for side-to=side attacks.

Katana

Maybe a katana? It's got a good balance of speed and power.

Staff:

Freya: A staff...? Freyr, you can use magic?
Freyr: Sure, why not? Magic will let me attack from long range, but it can be a little slow.

Note that, should you change your mind, you can sell your Weapon and purchase another from the Smithy. The Weapons sold at the Smithy at the start are the same Weapons that are contained in the Chest:

Broad Edge: 500G
Type: Dual Blades
Light and easy to handle, even for beginners. Has a quite sharp blade, even though it's for practicing.
ATK: +7

Zweihander: 800G
Type: Longsword
A longsword that needs to be held with two hands.
ATK +9

Spear: 500G
Type: Spear
A weapon with a blad at the end of a pole. It has a long reach and is used to stab at things.
ATK +7

Buraj: 800G
Type: Katana
Unsheathe, cut, put it back. A weapon for highly skilled swordsmen.
ATK +6
Max Rune Power +20

Fire Rod: 1000G
Type: Staff
A staff with a red jewel at the tip that emits balls of flame. Now you can mock the cold of winter.
ATK +4; MGC ATK +10; MGC DEF +2
Fire Attack +5; Fire Defence +5

Selling price is not the same as buying price, but you can see that the Fire Rod is the most valuable of all the basic Weapons. You can obtain a Fire Rod from Joe, incidentally, by completing his first Request or you can make one for yourself in the Forge using a Fire Crystal and a piece of Iron. Requiring only Skill Level 2, it is a good project for a beginner.

Another point of interest is the fact that your Character apparently favoured the Dual Blades before his journey through time as the Introduction Event before gameplay actually begins properly includes combat with Dual Blades.
************************************
The Nature of Weapon Abilities
************************************
Combat is a vital component of any Rune Factory game and Rune Abilities are special Attacks for specific Weapons. In many cases, however, purchase of any Weapon Ability is a waste of money as your Character can learn the Ability for any specific Weapon through practice with that Weapon. Joe sells Weapon Abilities at his Stall at the Plaza Pavilion.

Note that the Shortsword is not one of the Weapons that you can obtain in Tides of Destiny, rather regrettably. The Katana appears to have taken the place of the Shortsword.

All you need to do to gain access to a Forge is to stand in front of the Anvil to the right of the Sales Golem in the Smithy. Elena will appear to give you a book of simple Forge Recipes. Any one familiar with Rune Factory will recognise the various Weapons that can be forged here. As an early choice, you may wish to create a Wind Edge using a Broad Edge Sword and a Wind Crystal. You will find it easier to do so if you increase your Skill Levels first, but making the basic Weapons such as the Broad Edge itself, which can be made with Skill Level 1 and uses only one piece of Iron and a Knife Piece is a good choice for your first forging project. Both Ingredients used in creating the Broad Edge are easily obtained on Verde Island.

There is an alternative to the Wind Edge for a Player who prefers Katanas to Dual Blades.

Skanda: 240G
A katana that inflicts wind elemental damage.
Ingredients: Buraj, Wind Crystal
Skill Level 16
ATK: 14; DEF: 0; MGC ATK: 0; MGC DEF: 2
Wind Attack +10, Wind Defence +10

Buraj is created with one piece of Iron and one Knife Piece.
Buraj: 160G
Unsheathe, cuit, put it back. A weapon for highly skilled swordsmen.
ATK: 6; DEF: 0; MGC ATK: 0; MGC DEF: 0
Max Rune Power +20

You can make a number of simple Weapons as well as basic Rusty Hammer, Rusty Axe and Rusty Sickle with low Skill Levels and nothing more than the Items that are available on Verde Island.
*************************
Protection in Combat
*************************
It is not simply through practice that your Character will improve in combat situations in any Rune Factory game. Protection is a key to success and accessories can be as important as your Character's choice of Weapon. Remember that even Weapons can hold protective powers to ward off status ailments or to boost your ordinary HP.
Tides of Destiny gives your Character an advantage that never existed in other Rune Factory games in that you can begin to Cook, Craft, Forge and Mix immediately because of the generosity of your Neighbours in allowing you to use their facilities.
There are some useful Weapons and Items that can be made even if you have little or no experience or money. Using War Trophies and Ore that can be found at the start of Spring on Verde Island, you can make:
Leather Belt: 150G
Body Equipment:
Ingredients: Iron, Monster Hide
ATK: 1; DEF: 5; MGC ATK: 0, MGC DEF: 2
Max HP +10
Skill Level 15

Gauntlets: 160G
Arm Equipment:
Ingredients: Iron, Proof of Warrior
ATK: 0; DEF: 12; MGC ATK: 0, MGC DEF: 0
Skill Level 5

A good weapon that can be forged immediately, albeit with some difficulty, is the Wind Edge:
Wind Edge: 620G
Dual Blades
Ingredients: Broad Edge, Wind Crystal
Skill Level 20
ATK: 18, DEF: 0; MGC ATK: 0; MGC DEF: 2
Wind Attack +5

Freyr was able to make this Weapon successfully on his first attempt in his first day at the Forge, although he did make one Broad Edge sword before he attempted the Wind Edge. The Wind Edge is vastly superior to the basic Broad Edge Sword and, as you can see by the stats, offers some Magic Defence as well as a better Attack rating.

Skanda: 240G
Ingredients: Buraj, Wind Crystal
Skill Level 16
ATK: 14; DEF: 0; MGC ATK: 0; MGC DEF: 2
Wind Attack +10; Wind Defence +10

Compare Wind Edge with Skanda and you will see that each has some advantages over the other. Skanda is a little easier to craft and gives more Elemental Protection as well as Elemental Attack power. Wind Edge has a more powerful physical Attack, however and in terms of value, can be sold for a better price. Either one or both of these Swords can be made with access to no Islands apart from Verde Island.

It is the Earth Spirit Shrine that will give you access to Bronze. You can find it in Pots and Chests but although you can use Bronze to make a Bronze Bracelet accessory and a few other Items, you will discover that the Weapons that use Bronze for the most part require an upgraded Forge as they use more than two Ingredients.

One exception is the Scimitar which requires only Broad Edge and a piece of Bronze. It is not as powerful as either of the Wind Swords, having nothing more than a physical ATK of 9. This makes it only marginally more powerful than a simple Broad Edge.

**********************************************
Weapons and Accessories as Rewards
**********************************************
Although it is important to improve your own Skills at the Forge and Workbench, you may find that the best Weapons and Accessories early in the game are given as Rewards for completing Requests as well as being Items that are found in Pots and Treasure Chests in Dungeons. By the beginning of Summer, you should have decent Weapons and Accessories from these sources.
Sparklers is a Dual Blade that can be obtained in a Request from Sierra for 2000G. The Courage Badge is a Reward for a Request from Joe. Starred Accessories in the form of Neck Towel, Leather Belt and Gauntlets can be found on the first few Islands you discover. You even can find a Cheap Fishing Pole in the Earth Shrine by smashing a Pot there.
Note that, should you lack a basic Fishing Rod by the time the first Fishing Festival occurs, Bacchus will give you one when you speak to him.

*****************
Energy Levels
*****************
In other Rune Factory games, your Character's Energy was distinct from that of any Monster who accompanied him into combat. In Tides of Destiny, it is important to recognise that Ymir's Energy Levels are separate from yours.
Ymir's Energy Levels are depleted during long journeys as well as combat with Sea Monsters. You will find that the Golem's Energy Levels decrease faster when the weather is bad. Be careful of Ymir's Energy Levels or you will find that he will pass out in the middle of the sea, sending you home to bed without your supper, as it were.

***********************
Easiest Cooking Recipes
***********************

If you have money to spare, you can purchase Ingredients at the Inn and the General Store immediately to use in simple Recipes. It is less expensive, however, to tame a couple of Buffamoo on Verde Island and then make Hot Milk using the Milk harvested from them. You can obtain Milk randomly as a War Trophy from defeated Buffamoo as well.

Hot Milk: 210G
Ingredients: Milk
Skill Level 2
HP Recovery: 0; RP Recovery: 0; Effect Time: 60
HP Auto Recovery + 10, Dark Attack +10

Selling the Hot Milk you make as well as some of the elemental Crystals obtained from destroyed Generators can give you a decent income even in the first week of Spring. In addition, completing Lily's first very simple Request will give you 500G.

**********************************
Expansions and New Options
**********************************
There are many ways to unlock an expanded Menu or a new Option in Rune Factory games. Among these are the following:
By exploring a new area on the Map;
By increasing the Friendship Level of a specific Character or Characters;
By entering a new Season;
By completing a specific Request;
By speaking to a specific Character at a specific point in the game;
By selling a specific Item to some one at a local Shop.

It appears that it is by exploring a new area on the Map that the Shop Menus are expanded.
On 9 Spring, all Shop Menus on Fenith Island were expanded to include new Items. At this point, Freyr had discovered and explored Spring Island. Menus often do change with the seasons in Rune Factory ganes but usually it is not a week by week occurrence.

A Friendship Increase and Event that does unlock a new option in Tides of Destiny is Lily's first Friendship Event. If you tell her that you have time to speak to her when she asks, you will experience a little Event in the Inn wherein she decides to practice her cooking skills in secret. At the end of this Event, your Character will agree to 'help out' at the Inn. This will unlock the 'Part-Time Work' option at local Shops.

Note that whenever you accept 'Work', time will pass. Your wages are not very high, but it may have a small value in terms of increasing Friendship levels.

********************************
Requests and New Options
********************************
Requests are the main method by which new options are introduced in Tides of Destiny. They do increase Friendship Levels as well, allowing your Character to experience new Friendship Events. A list of Requests with their details and Rewards are included in this Guide but a Player definitely should not ignore any Request simply because there is no Reward or no significant Reward attached to it. Every Request should be completed in Tides of Destiny.

Very often, a Request will be part of a sequence of Requests and Events. If you do not complete the Request, the next Event or Request in the sequence will not appear. Other Requests are based on Friendship Levels, but it is through completion of Requests that Friendships generally increase so again, it is counterproductive to ignore any Request.

In many case in Tides of Destiny, however, a new Request by a Character will appear even if you have not yet completed a prior Request by him/her. Tides of Destiny is far more flexible than other Rune Factory games in this respect. You can cancel a pending Request in order to be free to accept a new one, but I prefer to 'test' Requests before I save the game to make certain that they can be completed at the current stage in the game. As you can save your game at any point in the day, it is easy to reload. Some Requests, in particular, require specific Items or Ingredients that may or may not be available to your Character when the Request first is posted on the Board. Although there are no penalties for cancellation of a Request, apart from the loss of any Items given to the Requester in the course of attempting to complete it, my own preference is to accept a Request only when I can complete it at once.

As stated above, if a Request requires you to give the Requester more than one Item, cancellation of the Request before completion will mean that you will lose the benefit of any Items given prior to cancellation. For example, there is an early Request by Lily for three Ingredients: 1 Squid, 1 Strawberry and 1 Apple. A Squid can be caught almost anywhere in the sea once you have a Fishing Rod and an Apple can be purchased from the General Store, but in order to obtain a Strawberry, you probably need to restore Spring Island and having Monsters working on it who are capable of growing Strawberries. (I did not find a Strawberry in any Dungeon prior to the restoration of Spring Island.) If, therefore, you accept the Request, then give Lily a Squid and/or Apple before you discover that you cannot obtain a Strawberry for her yet, cancellation of the Request will mean that the Items you gave to her no longer will count towards completion of the Request when next you accept it.

New Islands are introduced in Requests. Very often, discovery of a specific Island either is an important part of the story or it may be a place ruled by a specific Season or activity. Exploration of the seas is a crucial element in Tides of Destiny and new locations on the Map are given in Request Events.

This natural bath features spring water heated by volcanic rocks. It's a great place for people on the island to relax.
The men's bath is to the left, and the women's bath is to the right. The bathhouse is free, and will restore your HP and RP. It will also heal all status ailments excapt a cold.
Closed Weekdays 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. for cleaning. *
*Editorial Note: Although the Bath is supposed to re-open at 3.00 p.m., Maerwen often will be inside the bath cleaning at 3.00 p.m. and you then will not be able to use the Bath until she actually leaves the building. Sometimes this will be as late as 3.15 p.m.
**********
Sleeping:
**********
Sleeping is an important part of staying healthy. Use the bed in your house to rest and restore your HP and RP.
If you don't go to sleep, you'll collapse from exhaustion at 5.00 a.m. If that happnes, you'll wake up late, and you might catch a cold.
Calendar: Festivals and people's birthdays that you've learned will appear on your calendar. Check it often, and make sure you're not misisng anything important!
********
Shops:
********
Fenith Island has several shops, including a bar, a general store, a clinic and a blacksmith.
Each shop sells different things. For example, the blacksmith sells weapons, and the clinic sells medicine. However, each store will buy your unwanted items from you.
Items will sell at different prices depending on their popularity. Check the bulletin board to see if an item is selling well or not.
You can also haggle when you sell items. To haggle, press the 1 Button.
If you succeed, you can sell an item for a higher price, but if you fail, you'll have to sell it for less.
On 3 Spring, after Ymir grows into a Golem, you will have access to a new Tutorial Book:
***********************************
Brushing and Taming Monsters
************************************
The brush is used to tame monsters. Equip the brush, then press the A Button near a monster to brush it. You'll need to brush it several times to tame it.

Brushing a monster after it's tame will raise its affection. Tame monsters will help you fight, and do various jobs for you.

**********************
Social Interactions
**********************
Rune Factory games tend to operate on the same principles as Harvest Moon where social interactions are concerned. Dialogue is a key element both in discovering facts of importance and in raising Friendship Levels. In Tides of Destiny, you can obtain many different dialogues from the same individual simply by speaking to him or her again and again in the course of the same encounter.

There are a number of tourists on Fenith Island with whom you can interact at the start of Spring. They have important facts to impart as well as local gossip or their own point of view of the weather, the island and other Characters.

Bernie will give you the basic rules of raising Friendship Levels:
Bernie: The best way to attrract the interest of a member of the opposite sex is to be a good conversationalist and give presents that the person likes.

It is through dialogue often that you will discover the Most Favourite Gifts of an Individual. From the start, for example, you can obtain information about Maerwen's Favourite flower, the Moondrop:

Maerwen: I recommend moondrops this time of year. I like the dainty little, yellow flowers.
**********************
The Dragon Shrine
**********************
The first time you enter the Dragon Shrine screen, you will experience an Event with Odette. She will be singing to the Arch-Dragon. After the Event, go to the Altar and press the A Button to investigate.
Odette will explain the Offerings system. Deposit Gold in the Offering Bowl to pay for 'Wishes' that you can make to the Arch-Dragon. Odette has to be present, however, if you wish to communicate with Talynn, the Arch-Dragon as human language will not do.
The Wishes you can make are as follows:
Learn about neighbouring Islands: 500G
Learn about Fenith Islanders: 1000G
Be transported to another place: 3000G
Collect more items from defeated monsters: 5000G
When you first access the Offering Bowl, it will contain a total of 5000G. You can use this amount freely to gain information. If you save your game before you go to the Dragon Shrine, you can find out everything you need, then reload and return to ask more questions.

At the start of the game, it is pointless to ask about 'neighbouring islands' as the only Island that is on the Map is Verde Island. The question deals with the Crops that are best to plant on an Island and no Crops can be planted on Verde Island.

The best option is to 'Learn about Fenith Islanders'. Whenever you choose this option, you can discover the Most Favourite Gift and Most Detested Gift of any Individual.
**********************************************
New Options through Social Interactions
**********************************************
*******************
Part-Time Work
*******************
Raise Lily's Friendship Level (and your income!) by completing her first two Requests, then speak to her at the Inn to experience a little Event that will unlock Part-Time Work both at the Inn and at the Gemini General Store. Experiencing this Event should raise Lily's Friendship Level to 1. The option to 'Work' will be added to the Shop Menus.
*********
Fishing
*********
You can purchase a Cheap Fishing Pole at the Smithy but if you speak to Joe at the Inn after raising his Friendship Level by completing his first Request for Wine, you can experience a little Event that will give you a Cheap Fishing Pole as well as Recipes for creating Fishing Poles at the Forge.
Joe: I bet you don't even have the one must-have items for any seafaring adventurer, do you?
Freyr: The one must-have item?
Joe: Yeah. This.
Freya: Is that... a fishing pole?
Joe: And some recipes for making your own fishing poles! As long as you have a fishing pole, you'll be able to eat even if you get lost at sea!
Let me tell you how to use it. First equip your fishing pole. Then stand next to a body of water and press the A Button.
Wait a little and a fish will bite. Then the fishing gauge will appear. A cursor will move rapidly back and forth on the page. To stop the cursor and yank the fish up, press the A Button. Stop the cursor while it's in the blue area of the gauge to catch a regular fish, or in the green to catch an extra large fish! Think you got it? Happy fishing!
A new Tutorial Book then opens to repeat the information Joe imparted:
*********
Fishing:
*********
Use your fishing pole next to a body of water to cast. Then the fishing gauge will appear. Stop the cursor in the blue part of the gauge to catch a regular fish, and the green part to catch a lare fish.
If you stop the cursor in the red part of the fishing gauge, though, you'll fail to catch a fish.
Different fish appear in different spots and different seasons. You can also fish from Ymir just about anywhere in the ocean, so experiment with lots of different spots!
N.B. If you do not experience this Event before the Spring Fishing Festival, you can obtain a Chaep Fishing Pole from Bacchus when you speak to him there.

******************
Game Controls
******************
Your basic 'Action' Button is the A Button. B cancels actions or allows you to disengage from an object.

Your Character will have the ability to Teleport from the start. Simply press the 2 Button to Teleport. It will take you back to your front door if you are elsewhere on the Island, even before you go anywhere with Ymir.

When you are on Fenith Island, simply press 1 to access the Map. The Map will display Character Icons showing the position of other Characters on the Island.

The + Button allows you to access a Wheel Menu that includes:
Status
Equip
Quick Equip
Quick Use
Quest Log
Options
Monsters
Villagers
***************
Shop Menus:
***************
Shop Menus are expanded when your Character unlocks new options. The first expansions occurred when had explored Spring Island and the next expansions occurred when he accessed the Earth Shrine.

At the start of the game, you will find the following at the Shops on Fenith Island:
********************
Three Sisters Inn
********************
It appears that the Lunch and Dinner Menus alternate, so that one day, you will find the Drinks in the morning and the next, in the evening.
When you speak to Lily at the Inn in the evening, you will be able to choose from the usual Shop Options of Buying, Selling or Eating at the Inn but there is an additional option in her case. You can ask her to sing a song.

Obviously there is a big difference between the choice to eat at the Inn or to take the food home in the sense that you can choose when and where to eat whatever food is in your own inventory. There is another difference as well, though.

If you choose to eat at the Inn, you will experience a little jolly Event.

Freya: Hee-hee. I wonder what Odette cooked?

Freyr: It's fine, right? It's not anything you hate to eat, right?

Freya: Huh? Of course not!

Freyr: Because I always used to have to eat whatever you turned up your nose at.

Freya: That was a long time ago! I'm not picky about food anymore! I'm not one of those girls!

The food will arrive, much more extensive and lavish than anything you actually ordered!

Freyr: Here's the food!

He eats, then:

Freyr: Mmm, delicious!

Freya: It was delicious, wasn't it?

Freyr: Can you actually taste it?

Freya: I can taste it. But it's annoying that I can't eat it in the order I'd like to.

Freyr: You just have to put up with it.

Freya: Wouldn't it be cool of you to have said something like, 'I'll let you control the body to eat sometimes'?

Freyr: i don't care about being cool.

Freya: Jerk!

Bargain Days
****************
Bargain Days are not a new concept in Rune Factory. In Tides of Destiny, all Bargain Days are marked on your Calendar. The first one occurs on 11 Spring. In Freyr's game, only the Inn and the General Store participated in this Bargain Day with a 10% discount on all Items. Items sold at the Forge remained at full price.

The first Bargain Day on 11 Spring is a great opportunity to complete Requests that require an outlay of money. For example, Joe's first Request is for a bottle of Wine which ordinarily costs 500G at the Inn. Wait until Bargain Day and purchase it for 450G instead.

Note that Bargain Days are shop-specific. 11 Spring is a Bargain Day only for the General Store and the Inn. Bargain Day on 23 Spring in contrast gives a 10% discount for items purchased at the Plaza Pavilion from James or Joe or from the Clinic.

If you wish to practice your Cooking Skills using Items purchased from the Inn or General Store, wait until Bargain Day to buy them.

Her second Request, which is for 1 Iron and 1 Scrap Metal, will give you a Reward of 1000G. Note that although she requests that you purchase both Items from the Smithy, you can obtain them as War Trophies instead and give them to her without paying anything.

Exploring Verde Island
***************************
Verde Island will give you your first War Trophies, Rune Spirits and Ores. There are pots to smash that contain either Iron or Scrap Metal. There are Monster Generators of every colour and element that spawn Buffamoo, Woolies, Spring Plant Monsters, Goblins and Orcs.

You will experience a couple of Events and find important Treasure Chests. The first will give you a choice of initial Weapon. Another Event will introduce you to a Goblin Pirate Captain and his henchmen. You may find a Recovery Potion in that Chest.

Press A in front of fallen trees that sparkle with runes of every colour to capture Rune Spirits that can be used to restore other Islands to life.

If you climb to the top of the Island using the vines that cover the rocks there, you can find a Treasure Chest that sometimes contains Equipment. Freyr found a Leather Belt there that was superior to the one he made at the Craft Bench.

****************************************
War Trophy List from Verde Island

Fish List
***********
In the first Season, Freyr caught Fish that he would not have expected to catch in Spring. In Summer, he caught a Fall Flounder, among other Fish. By then he had upgraded his Fishing Rod.

What determines the rarity of the Fish you catch is not the location or Fishing Rod as much as where the gauge is hit when you press A to reel in your Fish. If you hit the gauge as far possible to the right, you are likely to catch a rare fish.

Fish that can be caught immediately with a Cheap Fishing Pole include:

Char: 45G
A very popular fish to catch. Tends to dwell in cold waters.
Caught in the Pool near the Dragon Shrinel on Fenith Island and in the river of Spring Island.

Cherry Salmon: 35G
A small freshwater fish. They are bountiful in waters everywhere so they can be found with ease.
Caught at the Pool on Fenith Island near the Dragon Shrine.

Flounder: 180G
A strange fish with eyes located on its left side. It should partner up with a turbot.
Caught at the ocean at Verde Island.

Girella: 40G
A saltwater fish that's in season during winter. Since they fight hard, they're popular among anglers.
Caught fishing from the pier in Spring.

Mackerel: 80G
It loses its freshness quickly. You know what they say: HOLY MACKEREL!
Caught at the pier at Fenith Island.

Needlefish: 35G
Small, thin and swims near the ocean's surface. has a bluish green back and a silvery white belly.
Caught at the beach on Fenith Island.

Sardine: 30G
This fish can be caught easily for it swims in schools. Seeing them swim in unison can be quite a sight.
Caught at the pier at Fenith Island.

Shrimp: 70G
A crustacean with a hard, red exoskeleton and 13 pairs of legs.
Caught at the ocean at Spring Island.

Squid: 35G
A nocturnal mollusk. It glides through the sea with its 10 feet. A very strange creature indeed.

Turbot: 75G

Caught at the beach on Fenith Island.

In the first Summer, he had been able to catch other types of Fish, including:

Fall Flounder: 220G
A fish that thinks it's a leaf. It also swims in a unique way like a falling leaf.

Lamp Squid: 200G
A squid shaped like a lamp. There is a legend of these squids guiding a lost ship to safety.

Lover Snapper: 510G
It has a really cute pink colour. FABULOUS!

Growing Crops and Plants on Spring Island
*************************************************
Farming as well as foraging and harvesting are very different in Tides of Destiny. Not all Islands can support plant life or Crops. Verde Island contains Monsters and fallen Trees filled with Rune Spirits but you cannot grow Crops or other Wild Items there.

Spring Island will be the first Island where Crops can be grown. Although you can 'plant' a Crop or Herb, the process is different from other games. To plant a Crop, you need to use your Sprout Spirit Wand at a location where a Crop or Plant COULD sprout. The little circles known as 'Planting Points' that can be activated will glow when your Spirit Wand is equipped and passes over them. . These sprouts then will not grow further if you do not set a Monster to work on the Island to tend them.

Note that you must take Spirits to Spring Island and set them free there before you can grow ANYTHING. Even one Spirit will suffice to bring a little life to the Island again but you do need to add Spirits of the four Elemental powers until the Island reaches 100% for maximum fertility and benefit.

Players of Rune Factory Frontier will remember the importance of keeping Runeys in balance. This is not necessary in Tides of Destiny. In fact, for each of the Seasonal Islands, there is one Elemental Spirit type that is worth more than the other three in terms of raising the Island's health to 100%. You always will be able to see the Island's spiritual health percentage in the book in the Monster Barn.
Monsters who can tend plants and Crops include the Spring Flower Plant Monsters on Verde Island. Use the Monster Book in Ymir's Barn to set Monsters to work on Spring Island for you. There is a Wheel Menu that shows the various Islands where Monsters can live. Drag the Monsters you wish to send to an Island into the box that is allocated to that Island.

Mushroom: 70G

HP Recovery: 7; RP Recovery; 0; Effect Time: 0

Moondrop: 120G
A flower, yellow like moonlight. Many believe the moon is actually covered in these flowers.

Moondrop was the first Crop produced for Freyr on Spring Island. Potatoes and Strawberries followed.
The Spring Flower found first on Verde Island produces Moondrop, Toyherb, Spring Flower and Emery Flower. The Goblin found on Verde Island produces Potato, Strawberry and Cucumber.
These are the first two Crop Monsters that you will encounter. When you reach the Earth Spirit Shrine, you will be in a position to find more powerful Spring Crop Monsters in the form of the Elephant and the Earth Elemental.
The Elephant is an ordinary Monster who, however, can produce four different Crops: Pink Cat, Potato, Strawberry and Emery Flower.
The Earth Elemental is what is known as a 'King' in Tides of Destiny. These are special Monster types that are found inside a white sparkling Generator different from ordinary Elemental Generators. The 'King' Monster will not appear UNTIL the Monster Generator is destroyed.

The Earth Elemental probably will be the first 'King' that you encounter. When tamed, she can produce four different Spring Crops in the form of Pink Cat, Potato, Strawberry and 4-Leaf Clover.

Once you have an Earth Elemental and Elephant on Spring Island, you can free your Goblin or Goblins as they produce nothing that is not produced by the Elephant and Earth Elemental.

Moondrop and Pink Cat when used on a Carpentry Bench produced a Pansy, which is a valuable commodity. You therefore will wish to keep Monsters on Spring Island that can produce Moondrop and Pink Cat.

Taming Monsters
*********************
You will find both Buffamoo who give Milk and Woolies who give Small Fleece on Verde Island. With the Brush that you find on the floor of Ymir's Monster Barn, both Monster types are easy to tame. You can buy Monster Cookies for them at the Gemini General Store. Monster Cookies, when purchased, go immediately to the Monster Barn.
To use the Brush on any Tame Monster in the Monster Barn, you first must press the B Button and then, while continuing to hold down the B Button, press the A Button.
You cannot Harvest from a Monster who yields Ranch Products on the same day that you tame it.
If you wish to take a Monster companion into combat, choose the option to take the Monster with you. You can take three Monsters with you at any given time.
The Brush is found on the floor of the Monster Barn inside Ymir but if you should lose it, you can buy another from Joe from 300G. A Harvester can be purchased from Joe for 500G. You actually will find a Harvester in the Monster Barn once you have accessed Spring Island for the first time.

If you purchase the Harvester, you can harvest from Tame Monsters even before you accept Maerwyn's first Request to find the Island 'for animals' but you will not obtain the Tutorial Book until you find the Harvester in the Monster Barn.
****************
The Harvester
****************
The harvester harvests items such as eggs and milk from your tame monsters. To use it, equip it, stand next to a Monster, press the B Button and while holding the B Button down, press the A Button.

******************
Controlling Ymir
*******************
The first time you will need to control Ymir is when you accept Maerwyn's first Request to look for an Island suitable 'for animals'.
Maerwyn will tell you:
Maerwyn: Supposedly, there used to be an island near here that was great for animals... It was supposed to be about an hour west of here. But right now it's beneath the ocean. I'm sure you could look into it, right?
The Sea Chart will open for you and another Island will be indicated with an X. The description of the location is: Maerwen has heard that there's an island suitable for animals.
A new Tutorial Book now will open:
**************
Control Ymir
**************
Control Ymir by using the sprout on his head. You can also control him by using the platform on his chest.

The glowing indicator on the top of Ymir that gave access to the Tutorial now will give you the option to:

Control Ymir

A new Tutorial Book will open:

**********************
Explore the Ocean!
**********************

Use Ymir to cross the ocean. Move with the Control Srick. To run, press and hold the A Button, then release it.

*****************
Overhead View
****************
While controlling the Golem, press down on the +Control Pad to switch to an overhead view. Press it again to return ot the sea-level view. Press up on the +Control Pad to return to the top of Ymir.

Use the Control Stick to move the cursor, then press the A Button to set a waypoint. Finally, press the A Button over your last waypoint, and Ymir will start moving.
To travel to a destination marked on the sea chart, first open the sea chart. Move the cursor over where you want to go, then press the A Button. You'll return to th eoverhead view with the cursor right over the spot you sleected on the sea chart. Then set a waypoint there.

*********
Ripples:
*********
While controlling Ymir, press the A Button and the B Button at the same time to make him hit the surface of the ocean.

The ripples this creates will react if they hit something, like an island. Go to where this reaction was, and then press the B Button to raise the island.

When you see the little geyser after pressing A and B together, walk towards it. When Ymir actually is at the location of Spring Island, he will halt automatically and a new Tutorial Book will open:
******************
Raising Islands
******************
Ymir can raise Islands from beneath the sea. Press the B Button where there's a sunken island, and Ymir will lift it up for you.
Spring Island: A green and pleasantly breezy island where you can harvest spring crops.
****************
Spring Island
***************
Spring Island is a dead Island which translates to one that has no Spirits. Your Character may have quite a few Spirits in his Inventory even before he finds Spring Island as they can be found on Verde Island in a few locations. You should have collected them on every visit really.

You will need Spirits to restore the Island to a status that allows you to grow Spring Crops there. To do so, you will need Runeys or Spirits.
When you first go ashore on Spring Island, a new Tutorial Book will open:
*********
Spirits:
*********
On many islands, you will find spirits. There will usually be gathered near tree branches.
Once an island has been returned to normal, you can grow crops there.

When the book ends, you will see an instruction:
Release the spirits on the island until it returns to normal.

If you were knowledgeable enough to bring your Runeys with you, you now can begin to release them. Hold a Runey in your hand and press A to release it.

Freyr: Let's go!
Even with a single Runey, the colour of the soil will change and you will be given a new Tutorial Book:
***************************
Cultivation: Spirit Magic
***************************
You can make plants sprout in certain places on some island. These places are called 'Planting Points'.

Spirit Magic lets you create sprouts. To use Spirit Magic, equip the spirit wand, then find a planting point. Stand close to the planting point, and you'll see a glowing yellow ring appear around it. Then use your spirit wand to make a plant sprout up there.
Equip your Spirit Wand once you have released one Spirit, then look for a planting point. When you find one, a sprout will appear.
Freya: Look, a sprout! Now what do we do, Freyr?
Freyr: This is as much as I can do. Spirit magic can make a seed sprout, but can't tend the plant as it grows.
Freya: So it will just stay a sprout forever?
Freyr: No, there are certain monsters that can tend plants. We need to get those monsters to tend the plants for us.
Freya: We can give jobs to monsters we've tamed with the brush, right?
Freyr: That's right. Using the Monster List in the Monster Barn, we can send our tamed monster to work on this island.
Monsters specialise in different kinds of work. Each monster can only do the one job it specialise in.
And some monsters don't do any work, but they provide products like wool and eggs. If we have monsters harvest crops, they'll be placed in Storage on the island where they're picked. Then we go pick them up.
But you have to have Monster Cookies to give to the Monsters in exchange for the jobs they do.
And we buy the Monster Cookies at the General Store...? It's a lot like the Earthmate Work I'd do back on our Fenith Island.
Freya: That's right! Good thing you already know your way around a farm! Tee-hee!
A new Tutorial Book that basically reiterates the conversation between Freyr and Freya now opens:
******************************
Cultivation: Growing Crops
******************************
You can use Spriit magic to make sprouts, but they won't grow on their own. You'll need Monsters to care for the sprouts and help them grow up into crops.

Helping plants grow isn't all monsters do! Different monsters do different jobs. Check the Monster Book to see which monster does what, and choose which island you want the Monoster to work on. A monster will automatically start working once it's been placed on any island.
Go to the top of the Island to find the Hollow Tree there. The Storage for Spring Island is the little niche to the left of the entrance to the Hollow Tree.
Explore the little petrified Island to find the hollow Tree at the top. Another Tutorial Book then will open:
*************************
Doors to other Islands
*************************
There is a door in the Monster Barn that leads to Spring Island. Once you go through the door, you can go to Spring Island any time you're on Ymir.

You now will find yourself back in the Monster Barn and with Freya, will discover a Harvester there. The Harvester Tutorial Book then will open.

********************
Furniture Tutorial
********************'
Furniture
You can use furniture to change the appearance of your house. To make furniture, your house must have two floors and you must buy a carpentry bench.
Furniture you make will automatically be added to your house. Furniture is added to your house by replacing furniture already there.

*************************************************
The Boulders in the Ocean and the Shrine
*************************************************
Once you have discovered Spring Island, new Requests will appear on the Message Board that allow you to explore new areas of the ocean.

One of these is a Request by Electra to clear the sea of some nasty boulders that are a threat to sailors. The reward for doing this is 5000G.
Note, however, that there is more than one collection of boulders in the ocean. If you clear the wrong area, your task will not be acknowledged by Electra. It is the two boulders in the North that need to be cleared in order to complete her Request.
If you clear the ocean of the four boulders in another sector, you will encounter your first sea Monster and learn how to control Ymir in combat.
When you encounter your first Sea Monster, the following Tutorial Book will open:

****************
Sea Monsters
****************
Sometimes monsters will appear when you are raising islands or clearing boulders. Use Ymir to fight them.
Press the C Button to guard and the A button to punch. Press and hold down the A Button, then release it to dash. Press the B Button to pick up stones to use.
You don't have to fight these monsters, though. If get far enough away from them, they'll stop chasing you. However, some islands are protected by monsters that will appear every time you raise them.
**********************
The Sunken Shrine
**********************
After you discover Spring Island, you should see a new Request from Lily. She will have a Sea Chart for you that gives the location of a Shrine that sank to the bottom of the sea.
The Shrine is in the southwest. This island is a fair distance from Fenith Island. You would do well to create a waypoint to reach it.
When you find this Island, Ymir will raise it. The beautiful Shrine will be at the very centre but will be filled with a powerful force that spawns Monster Generators in a circle round the outskirts of the Island.
It is on this Island that you will find your first Insect Monsters who drop Insect Jaw. You can make a number of new Accessories using Insect Jaws.
Insect Jaw: 50G
A jaw that can crush anything. A slight exaggeration, but it can still bite through a lot of stuff.

One accessory that can be made with nothing more than Iron and an Insect Jaw is a pair of Earrings. Earrings are sold at the General Store but it is less expensive if you make your own.
Earrings: 110G
Head Equipment
Ingredients: Insect Jaw, Iron
ATK: 0; DEF: 4; MGC ATK: 0; MGC DEF: 0
Max Rune Power +10

Earrings are better than the Handknit Hat in one respect but not as protective in others. The Handknit Hat has far better Defence and Magic Defence but the Earrings raise your Maximum RP by 10 points. You can make both and use them as you wish.
A better choice than Earrings might be the Pendant which, being Neck Equipment will allow you to keep the Handknit Hat.
Pendant: 110G
Neck Equipment
Ingredients: Iron, Insect Jaw
ATK: 0, DEF: 6; MGC ATK: 3; MGC DEF: 2
Skill Level 5

The Handknit Scarf is far more powerful than the Pendant but requires a high Skill Level so if your Character does not have sufficient experience to craft the Handknit Scarf, he can make the Pendant and wear that until his Skills at the Craft Bench improve.
***************************************
Jocelyn's Sunken Shrine Request
***************************************
Players of the Rune Factory series will be familiar with chambers wherein a Gate slams down once the Character enters, thereby forcing him/her to defeat all Monsters within in order to unlock the Gate again.

There are similar 'gates' in Tides of Destiny that appear as curtains of energy. Some of the Temporary Islands, such as the Statue Head Island, have circular chambers with Gates. When all Monsters are defeated, the curtain will dissipate and a Treasure Chest will appear in the centre of the floor.
The Temple on the Sunken Shrine Island has a curtain in front of its entrance that prevents entry. You simply need to destroy every Monster Generator on the Island in order to make the curtain disappear, allowing entry to the Temple Chamber.

Jocelyn will make a Request that you explore the Temple, but the Treasure found in the Temple when you defeat all the Monsters is an Earth Spirit Shrine Key that has nothing to do with her Request.

Earth Spirit Shrine Key: 0G
A key needed to open the door to the Earth Spirit Shrine.

You complete Jocelyn's Request simply by entering the Temple and then returning to her to answer a series of questions. The answers you give determine the amount of the reward. If you answer all her questions correctly, you will obtain 5000G. If you answer any of them incorrectly, her Reward will be 3000G.
The questions are:
1. To begin with, how many pillars were there? Was it in the legendary architectural style of this area?
Correct Response: 24
2. What colour was the stone?
Correct Response: Brown
3. Was there a pattern on the floor?
Correct Response: Yes

Temporary Islands
*********************
There are a number of small Islands in the Ocean that are associated with Requests but which can be raised only briefly by Ymir. You can explore them while he is holding them but once you wish to go elsewhere, you must allow him to toss the Island back into the sea.

The first Requests that are associated with small Islands that can be raised only temporarily are:

Mikoto: Something hidden beneath the waves.
I heard a tale from a traveler of something insteresting hidden under the sea.
The description on the map is: A giant statue slumbers here.

Sierra: A ghost in the ocean?
There's a faint yellow light appearing on the ocean! Is it a ghost? Some one needs to investigate!
Details: This is the Nameless Island located at D-6 on the Map. To complete the Request, simply collect the Rune Spirits from the Fallen Log.
Reward: Sardine Sashimi x 5

When Ymir raises the first Temporarily Raised Island, a new Tutorial Book will open:
*******************************
Temporarily Raised Islands
*******************************
When the islands Ymir lifts are small, you can go on them while Ymir is still holding them. These islands only stay raised while Ymir is holding them. He will toss them back into the ocean after you've finished exploring them.

*******************************
The Nameless Island (D-6)
*******************************
When searching for this Island, there will be no landmarks in the form of boulders as there are for some. If, however, you pass the location of the Island after creating a Waypoint in the area, you may see an exclamation point in the Map as you pass it. There are no Sea Monsters that appear regularly when raising this particular Island, unlike the Statue Head Island.
Apart from Monsters your Character has encountered elsewhere, including the Wooly and the Ant, you will find your first Slimes on the Nameless Island in the form of the Fire Slime. One of the War Trophies that can be obtained from the Fire Slime is the valuable Fire Element.

When you explore the first Nameless Island at D-6, you will see some vines clinging to the rocky hill in the very centre of the Island. Climb the vines to find a Small Treasure Chest at the top. This type of Treasure Chest cannot be opened by your Character but must be taken instead to Jocelyn for Appraisal.

Taking Advantage of Spring Island
***************************************
Once you have discovered both Spring Island and the Earth Shrine Island, you will be able to take full advantage of Spring Island to grow Spring Crops. Moreover, you can have an assorted set of Monsters in your Monster Barn to give Ranch Products.

Make certain ALWAYS to have a good supply of Monster Cookies. A Monster without a Cookie on any given day is a Monster who will neither give Ranch Product nor perform any Tasks set to him.

Monsters who give edible Ranch Products on Verde Island and the Earth Spirit Shrine are the Buffamoo (on Verde Island) and the Cockadoodle (in the Earth Spirit Shrine). With these two Monsters, you should have a daily supply of Milk and Eggs.

Monsters who give non-edible Products who can be found on Verde Island and in the Earth Spirit Shrine include the Wooly and the Monster Box. The Wooly gives Small Fleece and the Monster Box gives a Ruby.

The Monsters who can be set to work on Spring Island growing Spring Crops include the Spring Flower Monster, the Elephant, the lovely Earth Elemental and Goblins. Each Monster type who can grow Crops is associated with specific Crops. The Goblins grow Potatoes, Strawberries and Cucumbers. The Elephants grow Pink Cat, Potato, Strawberry and Four-Leaf Clover. The Earth Elemental grows Potato, Cucumber, Strawberry and Cabbage. The Spring Flower grows Moondrop, Toy Herb, Spring Flower and Emery Flower.

The Crops harvested on Spring Island in the first Spring were, in order of appearance:

Potato: 110G
Single Harvest Crop
A good crop needed in every springtime farm. Delicious both alone or as an ingredient.
HP Recovery: 8; RP Recovery: 0; Effect Time: 0

Strawberry: 110G
Multiple Harvest Crop
I am strawberry, the sweet flavour of romance. May all those who taste me find their true love.
HP Recovery: 5; RP Recovery: 0; Effect time: 0

Cucumber: 100G
Multple Harvest Crop
This crunchy, watery, green vegetable naturally attracts attention.
HP Recovery: 11; RP Recovery: 0; Effect Time: 0

Note that Giant Crops exist in Tides of Destiny. With Spring Island at over 100%, Giant Potatoes appeared in the first Spring. In early Summer, Freyr had his first harvest of Giant Strawberry.

Giant Potato: 330G
Type: Big Crop
A huge potato. A full score for high nutrition. Can you swallow it in one bite?
HP Recovery: 16; RP Recovery: 0; Effect time: 0

Giant Strawberry: 330G
Type: Big Crop
A huge strawberry. It'd like to eat a cake fit for a strawberries this big.
HP Recovery: 10; RP Recovery: 0; Effect Time: 0

Unfortunately, although their nutritional value as raw Crops is higher than ordinary Crops and their selling price is higher as well, they cannot be used in Recipes that require Potatoes.

The first Flowers that appeared on Spring Island were Moondrops, followed shortly afterwards by Pink Cat. Toy Herb was the third to appear, followed by Spring Flower, the most valuable of the four.
Moondrop: 120G
A flower, yellow like moonlight. Many believe the moon is actually covered in these flowers.
HP Recovery: 2; RP Recovery: 4; Effect Time: 0

Pink Cat: 160G
A delicate pink flower. Often used by a master thief named Pink Cat as his calling card.
HP Recovery: 2; RP Recovery: 4; Effect Time: 0

Toyherb: 180G
A quiet, shy flower. Being docile and serene is one of this flower's charming points.
HP Recovery: 2; RP Recovery: 4; Effect Time: 0

Spring Flower: 480G
The most prominent springtime flower. Its pink petals are said to bring happiness.
HP Recovery: 3; RP Recovery: 4; Effect time: 0

********************************************
The Crops and Items on Spring Island
********************************************

The chances of growing any Spring Crop on Spring Island depend on the Monsters you have tamed and set to work there. The actual Crops that are grown will depend on the Monsters' Friendship Levels.

Early Crops tend to be Moondrop and Potato, followed by Strawberry and Pink Cat, if you have tamed Monsters from the first few Islands you have explored. When Friendship Levels have increased, you should see Toyherb.
When Toyherb is harvested, you will be able to take it to Elena to have a new Head styled for Ymir.

Toyherb: 180G
A quiet, shy flower. Being docile and serene is one of this flower's charming points.
HP Recovery: 2; RP Recovery: 4; Effect Time: 0

Spring Flower will appear after Toyherb and Cucumbers should appear after Potato and Stawberry. Note that Wild Items appear randomly in Planting Points on Spring Island and these will include: Mushroom, Bamboo Shoot and Green Grass.

Although Monsters can be set to tend Crops and to harvest them, your Character must plant new Crops, using a Spirit Wand over every Planting Point that glows. Where Multiple Harvest Crops like Strawberry and Cucumber are concerned, your Character only needs to replant after the last Harvest has occurred. Note that a Monster set to Harvest your Crops will not be very efficient until his Friendship Levels increase. It therefore is a good idea to visit your fields daily in order to harvest and replant.

***********************************
The Mole Boss of Earth Shrine
************************************
The Earth Shrine is a typical Rune Factory maze dungeon. The first and second floors are accessible at once, but in order to move through the third floor to the fourth floor, you will need to activate switches. Each switch opens a locked pair of doors.
Once you have reached any new floor, a Teleport will be created at the entrance to the Shrine. You then can return instantly to the entrance to any of the floors you have explored previously.

When you reach the stairway that leads to the fourth floor, you will see a warning prompt:
*******************
The Green Core
*******************

When you have defeated the Mole Boss of the 4th floor of the Earth Shrine and have activated the Event with the Goblin Pirate Captain that freezes the Island, you need to speak to Elena in order to make progress in the plot.

Elena: I've obtained some documents about the plant Golem.
Freya: Plant golem...?
Elena with thunder (Shut up!) Ymir, of course! Duh! That's why I can't stand dealing with amateurs... Well, anyway.
Elena: According to these documents, a plant golem can be upgraded using an item called a 'core'.
Freyr: Upgraded? That sounds great!
Elena (with music) : Yeah, it'll be awesome! So if you can find a core, bring it to me!

Obtaining the Core is as easy as speaking to Joe. As soon as you engage him in converesation, you should experience the following:
Joe: The other day I found this out at sea. I dunno what it's for, though. So I'm giving it to you, Freyr.
He tosses something onto the ground. It is:
Green Core: 0G
Type: Valuable
A shining, green core. How can you use it? You'd better ask some one.

Give the Green Core to Elena.
Elena: Whoa-hoo!? That's a Green Core, isn't it? With that, I can upgrade Ymir! I'll upgrade Ymire overnight! Just wait til you see!

The next morning, you will be awakened by Elena who will explain the upgrade to you.
ELena: I have upgraded Ymir into a more powerful golem! I strengthened his legs so that now he can walk through ocean streams where the water is shallow.
Freyr: Oh! I can't wait to try it out!
Elena: Yeah! That's the spirit! But you golem's still not all that strong. He won't be able to cross ocean streams where the water is deep. Even so, you should still be able to explore lots of places you couldn't get to before! Maybe you can even find another core out there! Then I could really juice Ymir up! Well, my amazing work here is done! Now I can get some sleep. Nighty night! *YAWN*...
**************************************************
Joe's Request and the 2nd Nameless Island
***************************************************

After Ymir is upgraded with the Green Core, a new Request from Joe should appear on the Message Board:

Joe: Can you use your sea chart?
I'll teach you how to read a sea chart. Come see me.
Difficulty Level: 1 Gold Turnip

You may wonder what on earth you have been doing up to this point with the Sea Chart if not READING it, but the Request places a new X on the Map, at a point where Ymir could not venture previously. The Island you will find here is another Nameless Island. This one is located in the D5 section of the Map.

As with any Temporarily Raised Island, you can explore it only as long as Ymir is holding it aloft. You must allow him to toss it back into the sea when you have completed your explorations.

Here you will find your first flying Monsters. Vines lead to the top of the rock in the centre of the Island where a Treasure Chest contains a small Treasure Chest. Small Treasure Chests as always must be appraised by Jocelyn if you wish to access their contents.

**********
Pandora
**********

The statue that you found on a Temporarily Raised Island actually is a sorceress who turned herself into stone. In order to trigger the sequence that allows you to interact with her and restore her to health, you must speak to Sierra. Sierra will tell you to meet her at the pier at night to look for a Ghost. If you wish to trigger the Event, you must enter the Pier from the main path from the Inn and NOT go down the hillside from your house to the Beach and from there to the Pier.

Sierra will propose a 'trial of nerve' and as you walk through the tunnel, you will encounter Pandora. When you go to bed afterward, you will experience an Event with her wherein she solicits your help in restoring her to health. You MUST accede to her plea for help. If you refuse, she and Freya will pester you until you finally surrender.

***************
Winter Island
***************
You will discover Winter Island by accepting Electra's Request:
Electra: The legend of stone flowers
Do you know the legend of stone flowers? I want to ask something about it...
Difficulty: 2 Gold Turnips

Winter Island is far to the northwest. You can avoid the deep bodies of water and arrive at it by a circuitous route if you only have one upgrade for Ymir. Once discovered, there is no point in keeping Ymir at that location but to force him to journey south again is a bother. Instead, you should take advantage of the Arch-Dragon's powers.

Incidentally, you will need 20 Spirits before you can make any use of Winter Island. Talynn will tell you as much if you wish to pay for the privilege.

When you have released a total of 20 Spirits (of any or every colour) on Winter Island, green Crystals will appear and a new Book will open:

Winter Island
It's always winter on Winter Island, so you can't grow crops there. You can, however, mine ore using your ore mining monsters. Grow ore, then mine it with a hammer.

The Trolls in the Earth Shrine and the Fire Slime on Nameless Island at D-6 both are Monsters who can tend Ore. You can tame a Troll even before you have restored Winter Island so that his Friendship Level will be decent once you are able to transfer to him to the Island to work.

You cannot transfer any Monster from the Barn to any Island until it has been restored to a certain point. Winter Island is restored to that point when 20 Spirits have been released but you should continue to release Spirits until the Island reaches 100% health.

****************************
Mining on Winter Island
****************************

Once you have released 20 Spriits on Winter Island, you can begin to use your Spirit Wand to 'plant' Ores at planting points that display a circle of light when the Wand is equipped. You then will need Monsters to tend to the rocks as they grow, in the same way as Monsters cause Crops to grow on other Islands.

The first two Monster types that you will encounter who are able to tend Ores are the Trolls in the Earth Shrine and the Fire Slimes on the Nameless Island at D-6.

The only 'mining' that occurs is performed when the Ore is fully mature. As with Crops, the Ore will sparkle when it is ready to be harvested. Use a Hammer to harvest it. Again, as with Crops, you can hire Monsters from the Harvesting Family to harvest Ore as well.

The Ores that you will be able to harvest initially will be Iron and Bronze. In the same way that Friendship Levels allow more valuable Crops to be grown on Spring Island, higher Friendship Levels with your Ore Monsters will allow more valuable Ores and Gems to appear on Winter Island.

******************************
Other Modes of Transport
******************************
Go to the Shrine and choose the Wish:
Be transported to another place: 3000G
The Arch-Dragon will lift Ymir into the air and fly through the skies to the destination of your choice.

******************************
Spirit Magic and Monsters
******************************
Planning ahead can be very helpful in any Rune Factory game. Farming in Tides of Destiny is quite different from any other game, although some fundamental rules remain constant. The Spirits known as Runeys in Rune Factory Frontier are simply Spirits of different colours in Tides of Destiny. You can find them circling fallen logs and stumps on the Islands and in the Earth Shrine, they can be found at the site of the large blue crystals.
Even before you have any way to use them, you should collect them. By the time you discover Spring Island, you should have enough to restore the Island to basic health, allowing you to place Monsters there immediately to begin to grow Crops.
It is not necessary to have the Spirits in balance in Tides of Destiny. Placing more of one colour than another on an Island will do no harm, although each Island is more receptive to one single Element than to the other three. The default value of any Spirit is 1% in terms of adding to the health percentage of any Island. There is always one colour or Element that is worth more, however. For example, Yellow Spirits are worth 2% each in terms of restoring Spring Island where it is the Blue Spirits that are worth 2% when released on Winter Island.

What is most important, however, is to restore an Island as quickly as possible to the point where your Character can use his Spirit Wand to create Crops (on Spring Island) and Ores (on Winter Island).
The small bare circles known as 'Planting Points' are the places where Items can be grown. When your Character's Spirit Wand is equipped, a Planting Point that is healthy enough for planting will glow. Wave the Spirit Wand and the Item that can be grown there will appear.
Nothing, however, will grow to maturity unless you have the right Monsters working on the Island. Remember always that every Monster must have one Cookie per day in order to work or produce Products.
Both Crops and Ores will grow daily. When they are mature, they will sparkle. To harvest a Crop, you simply need to press A when it is mature. To harvest Ore, you must use a Hammer. You will be able to tell how many Ores can be harvested from any Ore formation when you stand near it.
Oak can be planted on Spring Island as well, but it will not begin to grow until you set a Monster who can tend Oak on the Island. Beetles probably are the first Monsters you will encounter who can tend Oak Trees.

********************
Shipwreck Island
********************
The next Island Request that should be tackled is Bacchus' Request to find a Sunken Ship.
Bacchus: If you're good at raising isalnds...
I've got some good information for you. Come on by.
Difficulty Level: 2 Gold Turnips
Details: Find Sunken Ship to create Shipwreck Island at D3-4
Reward: None
The easiest way to reach the Sunken Ship in order to raise it is by going to Winter Island first. Ymir can journey there, although it is a long journey from any of the other 'bases' to Winter Island, or you can pay 3000G at the Altar to wish for the Arch-Dragon to fly you there. Once you reach Winter Island, the Sunken Ship is only a few steps away. Ymir will be forced to fight a Sea Monster and defeat it before he can raise the Sunken Ship but it is not a temporarily raised Island. When he finds the Ship, he will toss it through the air and it will land in a definite location a short distance from him to become Shipwreck Island.

When you go ashore, you need to find the rope ladder on the side of the ship. When you do, it will trigger an energy barrier. Destroy every Generator to destroy the energy barrier. Climb the rope ladder and when you reach the deck, an energy barrier will appear to force you to stay on deck until you have defeated all Monsters there.

When all Monsters are defeated, a Chest will appear. It will contain a piece of Silver Ore.
Another Chest is on the upper deck. It contains Thick Stick.

You will discover new breeds of Monsters on Shipwreck Island as well as some encountered previously.
********************
The Desert Island
********************
When you have explored Shipwreck Island, keep Ymir there long enough to accept James' Request:

Search for a desert island.
I want to fulfill the last wishes of a lost crew. Help me out?
Difficulty Level: 2 Gold Turnips

The Desert Island is about four hours' sea journey from the Shipwreck Island. When you find its location, Ymir will be forced to defeat a Sea Monster before he can raise the Island itself. Return to James and he will give you a generous Reward of 9 Silver Ore.

With 9 Silver Ore, you can improve your Tools, Weapons and Accessories. For a start, you can transform your Beginner's Pole into an Intermediate Pole. With 2 Scrap Metal, you then can upgrade the level of the Intermediate Pole.

Another project you can undertake immediately is that of creating a Silver Ring. With a Silver Ring, you can make any of the four Elemental Rings provided you have sufficient Skill at the Workbench. If you lack sufficient Skill, a Silver Ring should be better than any Arm Equipment you had prior to this.

With a piece of Silver Ore, you can transform an ordinary Pendant into an Elemental Pendant. You should have the ingredients for the Earth Pendant and Storm Pendant if you wish to make one of these. To do so, however, your Skills need to be even higher than those required to make an Elemental Ring.

In terms of Weapons, you probably will not make anything that is more powerful than the Sparklers you obtained from Sierra but you can make a couple of Katanas once you have Silver Ore: Shimchana and Onibi.

*******************************
Early Cooking and Crafting
*******************************
Residents of Fenith Island will allow you to use their facilities for Cooking and Crafting until you are adept and rich enough to afford an upgraded Kitchen, Forge and Crafting Bench in your own home.
As far as Cooking is concerned, you can use the Kitchen in the Three Sisters Inn next door. You will be given access to a Cookbook containing some easy No-Utensil, Pot and Frying Pan Recipes.
If you wish to begin Crafting, you need only enter the Crafting Room in the De Sainte-Coquille Mansion and explore the Crafting Bench. Electra will enter to give you a simple book of Crafting Recipes.
Among the Recipes that you are given will be some that will require more than two Ingredients. Note that you only will be able to complete Recipes that require a maximum of two Ingredients until you purchase upgraded areas for yourself.
*******************************
Cooking in Tides of Destiny
*******************************
When Odette generously allows you to live in a cottage next to the Three Sisters Inn, she tells you that you are welcome to use the Kitchen at the Inn if you wish to do any Cooking.
When you first enter the Inn, you will experience a little Event with Odette and Lily, her elder sister. After the Event ends, go through the door to the left of the Message Board to find the Kitchen. When you stand in front of the counter and Press A, Odette will enter to give you a List of Recipes as well as permission to use the Kitchen whenever you wish. She then will explain the basics of cooking as follows:
Odette: Stand in the kitchen and a list of the recipes you have will be displayed. Pick the recipe you want ot make.
Of course, you can't make a recipe if you don't have all the ingredients. You also can't cook without a recipe.
When you start cooking, the cursor at the top of the gauge will move. Press A Button to stop it.
Try to stop it when it's in the blue area. IF it stops in the red area, it will be a failed dish. So be careful not to fail.
Remember that you won't succeed if you try to make something beyond your capabilities, so it's best to start off with something simple.
Also, you can only make recipes using 2 ingredients here.
If you want ot cook something that uses more ingredients, you'll have to build a kitchen in your house.
Did you understand all that?
Freyr: Got it.
Odette: As long as you don't make a mess, feel free to use this kitchen whenever you want. Once you've made something good, let me taste it, okay?
You now will read a little Book about Crafting in general:
*********
Crafting
*********
Crafting is the process of combining different ingredients to make something new. You'll need recipes, ingredients, and crafting areas to craft. Crafting areas can be found on various places on Fenith Island. You can also have crafting areas built inside your house.
When you access a crafting area, a list of your recipes will be displayed. You can only make a recipe if you have all the ingredients for it.
Select a recipe to start crafting!
Once you start crafting, the marker will start rapidly moving back and forth in the crafting bar. Stop the marker in the blue section to craft successfully!
*****************************
Three Sisters Inn Kitchen
*****************************
There are three different areas for cooking on the counter in the Kitchen of the Inn. The first is for 'No Utensils' Dishes. The second is for Frying Pan Dishes and the third is for Pot Dishes. You need to stand in front of the appropriate Utensil to gain access to the Menu that allows you to cook. You will be able to cook only Dishes that use a maximum of two Ingredients here.
Level 1 Cooking Recipes will be given by Odette. When you complete Maerwyn's first Request to find Spring Island, she will give you Kitchen Recipes, Level 2 as a Reward. The Level 2 Recipes available in Odette's Kitchen once you have the Recipe Book from Maerwyn all are 'No Utensil' Dishes.

*******************************
Obtaining Items for Recipes
********************************
In terms of obtaining the Ingredients that you need for Recipes, whether it is a matter of Cooking or Forging, there are a number of methods in Tides of Destiny by which a specific Item can be obtained.

Where Crops are concerned, the primary method of acquisition is by growing and harvesting the Crop on the Island that is specific to its Season. This is not the only way by which a Crop can be found, however. In many cases, the Pots that you smash in Dungeons will contain Crops. Early in the game, you can obtain Tomatoes and Green Peppers by smashing Pots in the Earth Shrine long before you are able to gain access to an Island where they can be grown.

Ores are an important Ingredient in Weapons and Accessories. Basic Ores can be purchased at local Shops but you will find Ores in Pots and Treasure Chests in Dungeons and sometimes Ores as well as Elemental Crystals and Gems are dropped by defeated Monsters. The primary method by which Ores are obtained, however, is by GROWING them!

Winter Island is the place where Ores can be grown. To harvest them, you must mine them with your Hammer and until they sparkle with rune power, they will not be ready for harvest. As with Crops, it is not merely the Island that must be appropriate for planting the Ore, but the Monsters who tend the Ores must be able to tend the specific Ore you desire. Each Monster in Tides of Destiny who is able to tend Crops or Ores is restricted to a specific List.

As in any Rune Factory game, Silver Ore is fundamental to the ability to forge better Weapons and craft better Accessories. The first Silver Ore you may obtain is that which is found in the Treasure Chest won from the Monsters on the Deck of the Ship on Shipwreck Island.
The first Monster who can tend Silver is the Fire Slime, which can be found on the Nameless Island at D-6 before you ever explore Shipwreck Island. As is always the case in Tides of Destiny, however, the Fire Slime will not produce any Silver until its Friendship Levels are fairly high. The first Ores it produces are Iron and Bronze.

House Expansion and Advanced Utensils
***********************************************

Until you have your own Kitchen, you will be unable to make any Dishes that require an Oven, Mixer or Steamer. James is the individual to see when you decide you wish to own and use these Advanced Utensils. He has a Stall at the Plaza Pavilion on Thursdays. On Thursday, 23 Spring, a Bargain Day, he will announce that he is giving a 10% discount. Save your money in anticipation of this event and try to purchase as many expansions and Utensils then.
Note that the Kitchen expansions are for the No Utensils or Knife counter and do not refer to a chamber known as the Kitchen. You therefore will not need the Kitchen expansions in order to purchase the higher levels of other Utensils such as Pot and Oven.

Basic Carpentry
*******************
Decorative Items are part of the Harvest Moon and Rune Factory tradition. Although it certainly is not necessary to change your furniture, it is fun to be able to craft your own Items for the House and many Carpentry Items make fine Gifts for specific Individuals. Jocelyn in particular is fond of Carpentry Items.
To be able to craft any Carpentry Items, you first need to expand your house with the 2nd Floor option that costs 10,000G. You then need to purchase a basic Carpentry Bench for 1000G. Simple Recipes will be included in the purchase.
Note that Flower Arrangements are considered to be 'Furniture' in Tides of Destiny. An Item that your Character should be able to craft on the Carpentry Bench at once is the Pansy.

Pansy: 1250G
A decorative arrangement of pansies. Plants lighten up the mood in any room.
Ingredients: Moondrop, Pink Cat
Skill Level 13

Slightly easier to make, albeit less valuable as well, is the Red Tapestry:

Red Tapestry: 250G

Another valuable Item that can be crafted very early is the Mug. You will find Sharp Fang first on the 3rd Floor of the Earth Spirit Shrine.

Festivals
**********
Rune Factory Festival traditions consist of more mini-games than their counterparts in Harvest Moon. Tides of Destiny appears to follow this rule as well.
****************************
Cherry Blossom Festival
****************************
When you speak to Villagers on the previous day, they will refer to the Festival and their feelings about it. Some, like Elena, will be vague and uninterested but most Villagers will be excited about the beautiful Cherry Blossoms and rites of Spring.

On the day of the Festival, Villagers will have a couple of different dialogues. One set will deal with the Festival as it occurs. The other will be experienced after the Festival ends at 6.00 p.m.

To experience the Festival, speak to James as close to noon as possible. You will find him in the Plaza Paviliion across from the Church. Note that Festival Days tend to be days when the transient Merchants set up their Stalls in the Pavilion. You will find Joe, Jocelyn and James at their Stalls after noon. In your first Spring, this will be your first opportunity to purchase a Harvester from Joe. It really is too soon to bother with House Expansions from James as you need to utilise the various Crafting areas in the Village first to gain experience before an expanded Crafting Area of your own would make any sense. The House Expansion required to build any Crafting Area is 10,000G so you can begin to save your Gold for this as you work on your Crafting Skills.

You basically have six hours to complete the Cherry Blossom Festival Mini-Game if you speak to James immediately at noon. He will direct you to Odette, who will be found in her Kitchen. You can teleport back to your home to save time.

Odette will tell you that she cannot complete the Festival feast because she is missing three Ingredients. She then will list the Ingredients and ask that you obtain them from specific Villagers. The Ingredients are loaded randomly but the Villagers appear to be the same, at least in the first Year. The Villagers who hold the Ingredients are: Electra, Bismark and James. Each Item is specific to a Character and when you speak to the Character in question, he/she will pretend to have forgotten what is required. You must choose the correct Item from a list of three in each case.

James is easy to find. He will be at his Stall at the Plaza Pavilion throughout the afternoon. Electra should be near the Mansion. It is Bismark who presented a problem for me. Although the Map showed him to be near the Gemini General Store, I could not find him until 4.30 p.m., when he appeared outside the Shop. In any case, that was soon enough to complete the task.

When you return to Odette, you physically must give her all three Items in order to complete the Mini-Game. She then will make you a Cooked Dish using those Ingredients and give it to her. You can eat it, stash it or sell it. That is the extent of the Cherry Blossom Festival in the first Spring.

You do have an option to keep the Items instead of completing the Mini-Game. Odette will scold you and tell you she is disappointed in you. I do not know much FP you lose through this strategy,

The first Fishing Festival will occur on 19 Spring. All Villagers will talk about the upcoming Festival on the previous day as is usually the case on Fenith Island. Speak to Bacchus in the morning at the Beach to enter the Contest and hear the rules.

The rules are as follows:

Bacchus: You have until 6 to show off your fishing skills. You'll be awarded points based on how many fish you catch. Bigger and rare fish are worth more points, though, so try to land those. Choose your spot wisely and try not to make any mistakes. We've got a snazzy prize for the winner, so give it your best shot, Freyr!

Note that, should you not have a basic Fishing Rod by the time the first Fishing Festival occurs, Bacchus will provide you with one, in time-honoured Rune Factory fashion.

At 6.00 p.m., wherever you may be, you will experience the Event that names the winners, awarding 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place. Mere participation will give you a prize in the form of some Cooked Fish Dishes. Freyr received 6 Salted Pond Smelt.
The actual winner in the results that Freyr experienced was Joe with over 600 points. With almost 500 points, Freyr did not win even 3rd place, although in a different result, the Character who had 3rd place actually had fewer points. It appears, therefore, that your Character needs at least 500 points to be guaranteed a place in the 'Winner's Circle'. Your Character should be able to win 1st Place if he has 650 points or more.
Note that, once your Character enters the Contest, whatever the time of day, he will be unable to enter his House or access the Monster Barn until the Contest ends at 6.00 p.m. You therefore cannot save your game AFTER you enter the Festival in order to save good catches and reload when you miss...
************************
The Lantern Festival
************************
The Lantern Festival begins at 8.00 p.m. at the beach and ends at midnight. You can enter the Beach area at any time. If you enter before 8.00 p.m., there will be a flash of white light at 8.00 p.m. and the Festival then will begin.

Unlike some of the Lantern or Firefly Festivals in other games, the Lantern Festival in Tides of Destiny is not very dramatic. Very few Characters in fact will attend. Violet is in charge and you must speak to her to obtain the option to launch a Lantern.

If you decline, you will be able to speak to her again at any point until midnight for the option to be renewed.
Violet will ask you to write down your wish and you will have a choice:

I wish I could use magic better.
I want to control the giant better.
I want to eat more.
I want to be rich.
I wish I was stronger.

In every result, Freyr's wish was granted upon awakening the next morning. The effects of the wishes are as follows:

I wish I could use magic better.
Your Wind Magic skill increased!
Note that this result can vary considerably in terms of the type of Magic that is affected by the Wish.

I want to control the giant better.
As you can see by the following results, the type of Control that improves can vary from result to result:
In one result:
Your Golem Stamina skill increased!
In another result:
Your Raising Islands skill increased!

I want to eat more.
This can be the most profitable wish by far as Freyr was given the following:
Croquettes x 9 at a value of 1330G each.
Cookie x 9 at a value of 420G each
Fried Love Snapper x 9 at a value of 580G each.

In a different result, however, he was less fortunate, having obtained the following three dishes:
Failed Dish x 9 at 5G each.
Popcorn x 9 at 180G each.
Sandwich x 9 at 970G each.

I want to be rich.
Freyr received Gold Ore x 3
Again, you may receive different Items in other results.

I wish I was stronger.
Freyr increased by a full Level. Note that even this is variable, however, as each time he went to bed and awakened, his stats were a little different. In other words, although your Character's general Level will increase to the next Level, his Strength, Stamina and Intelligence may increase a little more or a little less in each result.

Miss Fenith Contest
************************
There always is a Festival on 1 Summer to celebrate the opening of the Beach for bathing. Tides of Destiny uses this as an opportunity to hold the 'Miss Fenith Contest', a traditional Beauty Contest that gives your Character a deciding vote as to which Eligible Girl should be chosen as the most beautiful of all.

***********************
The Dragon Festival
***********************
The Dragon Festival is held at the Beach on 12 Summer. There is a bonfire and Odette cooks Fish as an offering to the Arch Dragon. The actual Festival begins at 8.00 p.m. If you go to the Beach earlier, you will see the tables and the makings of the bonfire but it is at 8.00 p.m., after darkness falls on the Island, that the bonfire is lit. A thousand lanterns floating on the surface of the sea as in the Lantern Festival evidently denotes offerings that have been made to the Dragon.
Apart from speaking to the various individuals who come to the Beach to honour the Arch Dragon, the purpose of the Festival, where your Character is concerned, is fulfilled by speaking to Odette to receive your Fish Dish.
Odette: Here's your portion, Freyr. From the offering of fish made to Talynn, I always cook a fish dish for every one.
Note that the actual Fish Dish is chosen randomly. In one result:
Received Cherry Salmon Sashimi!
In another result:
Received Skipjack Sashimi!
Sierra: Odette made dinner for me. Ta-da! Salted Pike! BZZT! You're not getting any, Freyr! Odette made mine special!
Joe: I love bonfires! (with music) These are my favourite events, when we all get together and have a good time.

******************
Warrior Festival
******************
The Warrior Festival is held on 18 Summer at the Church Plaza. Mikoto officiates. The contest is one of target practice. There are three types of wooden targets in the designated area: ordinary soldiers, Kings and Girls. Hit a King for extra points. Hit a girl and your points will decrease. The contest is timed, so you need to move fast. Ordinary soldiers and Girls will remain in place until all ordinary soldiers have been hit. Kings will appear only briefly, so you must hit them quickly.
There are four prizes. First prize for winning the contest is a random Accessory. These accessories generally were better than the ones Freyr could make for himself in the first summer. In one result, he received a Gold Bracelet. In another, an Amethyst Ring. ( The Amethyst Ring is superior to the Gold Bracelet.)

*************************
The Fireworks Festival
*************************
The Fireworks Festival occurs on the beach on 19 Summer. Other Characters will speak of watching it with some one special. In your first year, your only option is to watch the Fireworks with your companion, Freya.
N.B. Make certain that you have plenty of Monster Cookies on 17 Summer, as the General Store will be shut for two days during the Warrior Festival and Fireworks Festival.

All About Monsters
*********************
Players who are familiar with the Rune Factory series know that the term 'Monster' refers to creatures of diverse species and personalities, from the cute little Chipsqueeks and Woolies to sinister spectres known as Necros and fierce but noble Dragons and Silver Wolves. In Rune Factory, Monsters are not evil but are misplaced in the world. You either need to return them to the 'Forest of Beginnings' in their own world or tame them so that you can work with them in this one.

Taming any Monster requires a Brush. You will find Monsters throughout the Map in Tides of Destiny on Islands. When you encounter them, you can use a Weapon to defeat them, often earning a War Trophy before the Monsters disappears to the Forest of Beginnings or you can equip a Brush and tame them. When tamed, the Monster will go at once into the Monster Barn located on Ymir.

Each Monster type has its own work description. Some give Ranch Products. These can be edible Ingredients such as Milk, Eggs and Honey or can be other Items such as Small Fleece or various Gems and Ores. In some cases, the Ranch Product a Monster will yield when tamed is different from any of the War Trophies you can obtain from it in combat.

Each Monster type has a specific Level and total HP. In any Rune Factory game, the general rule is that you cannot tame any Monster who is more than 20 Levels above your own experience Level nor can you make any Item with a Recipe that is 20 Levels above your Skill Level. In other words, if your general Level is 10, the highest Level of Monster that you can tame is 30.

Apart from the Monsters who yield Ranch Products, there are other Groups who tend Crops, Harvest Crops, grow Ores and grow Wood of various types. Each Monster type who can grow Crops is limited to a specific Season and list of Crops for that Season. You will find that lower Levels of Monsters usually have a shorter list of Crops they can tend than the higher Levels of Monsters who tend Crops.

A Monster in the Crops Group will produce the first Crop on its list at the lowest Friendship Level. As its Friendship Level increases, it will begin to produce the next Crop on the List. If there are four Crops on its List, it will produce the fourth usually only at a high level of Friendship.

Note that a Monster with a List of four Crops will continue to produce all four Crops randomly even at high Friendship Levels.

Monsters in the Harvest Crop only Harvest Crops and Wild Plants. They will not Harvest Ore or Wood. You therefore will find them useful only when you place them on Crop-producing Islands. The Winter Island produces only Ores and Gems.

Items that are found in the wilds in other Rune Factory games are found only on Crop-Producing Islands in Tides of Destiny. They are produced randomly on these Islands andby no means are as plentiful as they are in other Rune Factory games.

Tides of Destiny differs from other Rune Factory games in that the Monster Barn holds only 10 Monsters. The four seasonal Islands that you discover in the course of gameplay each can accomodate five Monsters. In other Rune Factory games, a Player could tame and keep a vast number of Monsters. Tides of Destiny limits the Player to the number that can fit in the Barn and on each of the seasonal Islands.

At the start of the game, you will have access only to Verde Island where both Woolies who give Small Fleece and Buffamoo who give Milk can be found. These are the first Monsters you should tame.

A Monster who has been tamed will go directly to the Monster Barn but will not produce Product nor work until the day after taming. If the Monster is one who produces Ranch Product, you will need a Harvester to collect it. You will experience little Events in the Monster Barn wherein you will find a Brush and a Harvester but if you wish to tame Monsters immediately and collect Product from them, you can buy both Harvester and Brush from Joe at his Stall at the Pavilion in the Church area.
Each tame Monster MUST have one Monster Cookie per day in order to produce Ranch Products or Work. Monster Cookies are sold at the Gemini General Store.
Some Item-Producing Monsters will yield Ranch Product daily, while others require more time to create a new Item. Eggs and Milk are Items that can be obtained daily. Small Fleece can be obtained every few days. A Gem from a Monster Box or Mimic takes much longer to be created.

******************************
Restoring Islands for Use
******************************
As discussed earlier in this Guide, it is a good idea to collect as many Spirits as possible from the start of the game. There usually are two locations on any Island where you can find Spirits hovering over a fallen log or a tree stump. In Shrine dungeons, you will find them encircling large Crystals.

You will find some of the same Monsters on more than one Island, even in the first Spring. Islands in Tides of Destiny are different from the locations or 'dungeons' in other Rune Factory games. Many of them can be raised only temporarily which means that, should you wish to return to the Island later, you must go to the same location on the Map and DISCOVER it again with Ymir.

Another important point with respect to any Monster that you encounter in the wilds is that its stats may differ from those given here or from those you found with respect to the same Monster in a different location. The following Monster List, therefore, is simply a basic Guide where the Level of the Monster and its stats are concerned.

Players familiar with the Rune Factory series will find many of these Monsters are known to them. There are a few differences, however, in Tides of Destiny, especially where Farming is concerned.

In Tides of Destiny, you cannot farm on your home Island, Fenith Island. On the Islands where Crops can be grown, you can bring the Crops to the surface but you need Monsters to tend to them. The Group to which the Monster belongs determines any Tasks it can perform for you. Monsters are Item-Specific as well in terms of Crops. Where a Monster can tend Crops, the Crops that it can tend are specifically named.

Please note that co-ordinates are given for the Temporarily Raised Islands but not for the permanent Island. Wrecked Ship is a Temporarily Raised Island but Shipwreck Island is a permanent Island.
