Introduction
*************
Players who are familiar with the Rune Factory series know that the term 'Monster' refers to creatures of diverse species and personalities, from the cute little Chipsqueeks and Woolies to sinister spectres known as Necros and fierce but noble Dragons and Silver Wolves. In Rune Factory, Monsters are not evil but are misplaced in the world. You either need to return them to the 'Forest of Beginnings' in their own world or tame them so that you can work with them in this one.

Taming any Monster requires a Brush. You will find Monsters throughout the Map in Tides of Destiny on Islands. When you encounter them, you can use a Weapon to defeat them, often earning a War Trophy before the Monsters disappears to the Forest of Beginnings or you can equip a Brush and tame them. When tamed, the Monster will go at once into the Monster Barn located on Ymir.

Each Monster type has its own work description. Some give Ranch Products. These can be edible Ingredients such as Milk, Eggs and Honey or can be other Items such as Small Fleece or various Gems and Ores. In some cases, the Ranch Product a Monster will yield when tamed is different from any of the War Trophies you can obtain from it in combat.

Each Monster type has a specific Level and total HP. In any Rune Factory game, the general rule is that you cannot tame any Monster who is more than 20 Levels above your own experience Level nor can you make any Item with a Recipe that is 20 Levels above your Skill Level. In other words, if your general Level is 10, the highest Level of Monster that you can tame is 30.

Apart from the Monsters who yield Ranch Products, there are other Groups who tend Crops, Harvest Crops, grow Ores and grow Wood of various types. Each Monster type who can grow Crops is limited to a specific Season and list of Crops for that Season. You will find that lower Levels of Monsters usually have a shorter list of Crops they can tend than the higher Levels of Monsters who tend Crops.

A Monster in the Crops Group will produce the first Crop on its list at the lowest Friendship Level. As its Friendship Level increases, it will begin to produce the next Crop on the List. If there are four Crops on its List, it will produce the fourth usually only at a high level of Friendship.

Note that a Monster with a List of four Crops will continue to produce all four Crops randomly even at high Friendship Levels.

Monsters in the Harvest Crop only Harvest Crops and Wild Plants. They will not Harvest Ore or Wood. You therefore will find them useful only when you place them on Crop-producing Islands. The Winter Island produces only Ores and Gems.

Items that are found in the wilds in other Rune Factory games are found only on Crop-Producing Islands in Tides of Destiny. They are produced randomly on these Islands andby no means are as plentiful as they are in other Rune Factory games.

Tides of Destiny differs from other Rune Factory games in that the Monster Barn holds only 10 Monsters. The four seasonal Islands that you discover in the course of gameplay each can accomodate five Monsters. In other Rune Factory games, a Player could tame and keep a vast number of Monsters. Tides of Destiny limits the Player to the number that can fit in the Barn and on each of the seasonal Islands.

At the start of the game, you will have access only to Verde Island where both Woolies who give Small Fleece and Buffamoo who give Milk can be found. These are the first Monsters you should tame.

A Monster who has been tamed will go directly to the Monster Barn but will not produce Product nor work until the day after taming. If the Monster is one who produces Ranch Product, you will need a Harvester to collect it. You will experience little Events in the Monster Barn wherein you will find a Brush and a Harvester but if you wish to tame Monsters immediately and collect Product from them, you can buy both Harvester and Brush from Joe at his Stall at the Pavilion in the Church area.
Each tame Monster MUST have one Monster Cookie per day in order to produce Ranch Products or Work. Monster Cookies are sold at the Gemini General Store.
Some Item-Producing Monsters will yield Ranch Product daily, while others require more time to create a new Item. Eggs and Milk are Items that can be obtained daily. Small Fleece can be obtained every few days. A Gem from a Monster Box or Mimic takes much longer to be created.

Taming Your First Monsters
*******************************
As discussed previously, you will find both Buffamoo who give Milk and Woolies who give Small Fleece on Verde Island. With the Brush that you find on the floor of Ymir's Monster Barn, both Monster types are easy to tame. You can buy Monster Cookies for them at the Gemini General Store. Monster Cookies, when purchased, go immediately to the Monster Barn.

To use the Brush on any Tame Monster in the Monster Barn, you must first press the B Button and then, while holding that button down, press the A Button. You cannot Harvest from a Monster who yields Ranch Products on the same day that you tame it.
If you wish to take a Monster companion into combat, choose the option to take the Monster with you. You can take three Monsters with you at any given time.
The Brush is found on the floor of the Monster Barn inside Ymir but if you should lose it, you can buy another from Joe from 300G. A Harvester can be purchased from Joe for 500G. You actually will find a Harvester in the Monster Barn once you have accessed Spring Island for the first time.

If you purchase the Harvester, you can harvest from Tame Monsters even before you accept Maerwyn's first Request to find the Island 'for animals' but you will not obtain the Tutorial Book until you find the Harvester in the Monster Barn.
****************
The Harvester
****************
The harvester harvests items such as eggs and milk from your tame monsters. To use it, equip it, stand next to a Monster, press the B Button and while holding the B Button down, press the A Button.

Spirit Magic and Monsters
******************************
Planning ahead can be very helpful in any Rune Factory game. Farming in Tides of Destiny is quite different from any other game, although some fundamental rules remain constant. The Spirits known as Runeys in Rune Factory Frontier are simply Spirits of different colours in Tides of Destiny. You can find them circling fallen logs and stumps on the Islands and in the Earth Shrine, they can be found at the site of the large blue crystals.
Even before you have any way to use them, you should collect them. By the time you discover Spring Island, you should have enough to restore the Island to basic health, allowing you to place Monsters there immediately to begin to grow Crops.
It is not necessary to have the Spirits in balance in Tides of Destiny. Placing more of one colour than another on an Island will do no harm, although each Island is more receptive to one single Element than to the other three. The default value of any Spirit is 1% in terms of adding to the health percentage of any Island. There is always one colour or Element that is worth more, however. For example, Yellow Spirits are worth 2% each in terms of restoring Spring Island where it is the Blue Spirits that are worth 2% when released on Winter Island.

What is most important, however, is to restore an Island as quickly as possible to the point where your Character can use his Spirit Wand to create Crops (on Spring Island) and Ores (on Winter Island).
The small bare circles known as 'Planting Points' are the places where Items can be grown. When your Character's Spirit Wand is equipped, a Planting Point that is healthy enough for planting will glow. Wave the Spirit Wand and the Item that can be grown there will appear.
Nothing, however, will grow to maturity unless you have the right Monsters working on the Island. Remember always that every Monster must have one Cookie per day in order to work or produce Products.
Both Crops and Ores will grow daily. When they are mature, they will sparkle. To harvest a Crop, you simply need to press A when it is mature. To harvest Ore, you must use a Hammer. You will be able to tell how many Ores can be harvested from any Ore formation when you stand near it.
Oak can be planted on Spring Island as well, but it will not begin to grow until you set a Monster who can tend Oak on the Island. Beetles probably are the first Monsters you will encounter who can tend Oak Trees.

******************************
Restoring Islands for Use
******************************
As discussed earlier in this Guide, it is a good idea to collect as many Spirits as possible from the start of the game. There usually are two locations on any Island where you can find Spirits hovering over a fallen log or a tree stump. In Shrine dungeons, you will find them encircling large Crystals.
Even before you have any way to use them, you should collect them. By the time you discover Spring Island, you should have enough to restore the Island to basic health, allowing you to place Monsters there immediately to begin to grow Crops.

Monster Locations
********************
You will find some of the same Monsters on more than one Island, even in the first Spring. Islands in Tides of Destiny are different from the locations or 'dungeons' in other Rune Factory games. Many of them can be raised only temporarily which means that, should you wish to return to the Island later, you must go to the same location on the Map and DISCOVER it again with Ymir.

Another important point with respect to any Monster that you encounter in the wilds is that its stats may differ from those given here or from those you found with respect to the same Monster in a different location. The following Monster List, therefore, is simply a basic Guide where the Level of the Monster and its stats are concerned.

Players familiar with the Rune Factory series will find many of these Monsters are known to them. There are a few differences, however, in Tides of Destiny, especially where Farming is concerned.

In Tides of Destiny, you cannot farm on your home Island, Fenith Island. On the Islands where Crops can be grown, you can bring the Crops to the surface but you need Monsters to tend to them. The Group to which the Monster belongs determines any Tasks it can perform for you. Monsters are Item-Specific as well in terms of Crops. Where a Monster can tend Crops, the Crops that it can tend are specifically named.

Please note that co-ordinates are given for the Temporarily Raised Islands but not for the permanent Island. Wrecked Ship is a Temporarily Raised Island but Shipwreck Island is a permanent Island.
